Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 9 / Trend H. Valiyev /

Azerbaijan and Iran will use STEFI system (Secured Transfer of Electronic Financial Information) to transfer money, Novruz Mammadov, the Communications and IT Ministry postal department head, told Trend.

The issue was considered during the next round of talks on cooperation of Azerbaijani and Iranian postal administrations, held in Tehran on Oct. 5-7.

Mammadov said that Iran has already joined STEFI system and intends to study the experience of Azerbaijan in using this system. Money transfers between the two countries will be transferred via the system.

"The parties also discussed cooperation in international mail, terrestrial mail to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Iran and post stamps," Mammadov said.

The Azerbaijani side proposes to publish stamps depicting the Caspian environment. The Iranian side proposes to issue stamps on a religious theme (with a picture of mosque).

The necessary conditions have not been created to transit mail to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, Mammadov said.

"The procedure for mail delivery to Iran is identical to all other procedures that do not meet our requirements. We think that it is necessary to simplify this procedure by negotiations with the customs authorities of both countries", he said.

Azerbaijan also offers Iran an opportunity to deliver mail to Russia and Kazakhstan. In its turn, Iran is ready to send Azerbaijan's mail through its territory into Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

But the question still remains open. It depends on the interests of both parties.

Cooperation with Iran in the field of postal communication is carried out within the Memorandum between the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry and the Iranian Information and Communication Ministry during President Aliyev's visit to Tehran on March 10, 2009.

Regular bilateral meetings will be held in accordance with the signed document and implementation of measures stipulated by the Memorandum.
