By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

An underwater internet cable will connect Georgia and Romania, stretching from Romania to Poti, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The internet services through this cable will be offered from 2022.

The price of the investment is $35 million, which is implemented by the former owner of Caucasus online company Mamia Nadiradze with the help of US investors.

As Nadiradze noted, the main part of the investments are covered by US Export-Import Bank Exim Bank, and the rest by an American partner.

"The project works are already underway and we should expect the start of the cable construction in the near future," he said.

According to Nadiradze, the internet will become cheaper in Georgia as a result of the project.

"We will be oriented on large internet providers and will provide internet to wholesale customers," Nadiradze noted.
