Azerfon Publicizes Number of Nar Mobile Subscribers

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Azerfon joint venture, a new GSM mobile operator in Azerbaijan, has over 100,000 subscribers.

John Armley, the Director General of Azerfon, stated at a news conference on 20 June that the coverage zone of Nar Mobile already extends to more than 80% of Azerbaijan.

The list of regions covered with Nar Mobile network has recently been supplemented by the region Agdash, Gazakh, Agstafa and Khachmaz. In only the last month, seventy additional stations providing high quality communications, both in remote areas of the country and in the capital, have been put in operation. The new base stations will help to increase the network's capacity and provide high quality access for all services throughout Azerbaijan.

There are 217 countries and 430 operators of mobile communications in Nar Mobile roaming coverage zone.

At present, Аzerfon has the technical capacity to serve 500,000 subscribers. Numbers have already doubled the network capacity from the commercial start. By the end of 2007 this capacity will be doubled again, enabling the operator to serve over 1mln subscribers.

In this period the company plans to cover 80% of Azerbaijan's territory without roaming agreements reached with Bakcell company.

Azerfon was awarded a license by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for provision of mobile services throughout the Azerbaijan. The company launched its commercial activities on 21 March 2007 using its Nar Mobile brand name.
