Given Turkey’s tourism opportunities, the country may become one of the destinations for Chinese tourists, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend April 17.

The ministry noted that attracting tourists from China is one of the priorities in the field of tourism development in Turkey.

“In 2018, Turkey expects to receive at least 500,000 tourists from China,” the ministry said.

On April 16, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that 36 million tourists are expected to visit Turkey in 2018.

Erdogan also said that this figure may reach 40 million people by the end of 2018.

"Turkey has a great tourism potential. Tourism is among the important sectors for development of the country's economy," Erdogan said.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Turkey expects the number of tourists visiting the country to be over 30 million in 2018.

Over 2.988 million foreigners visited Turkey in January-February 2018, according to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
