Cargo movement via Azerbaijani part of TRACECA down since early 2020

The volume of cargo transportation via the Azerbaijani part of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) amounted to 21.6 million tons from January through July 2020, and the cargo turnover made up 4.8 billion ton-kilometers, Trend reports citing a report of the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, the volume of cargo transportation dropped by 13.7 percent over the reporting period, and turnover - by 8 percent, compared to the same period of 2019.

A significant share of the total volume of cargo transportation (58.1 percent) accounted for road transport - 12.6 million tons, while the decrease in the volume of cargo transportation was 20.5 percent, said the Committee.

Reportedly, railway transport accounted for 30 percent of all traffic and was 6.5 million tons.

The share of maritime transportation accounted for 11.9 percent of the specific share of the total cargo volume and amounted to 2.6 million tons, the committee noted.

The report added that about 20 percent or 4.3 million tons of cargo was transported in transit via TRACECA.
