Next equipment from India will be brought to Iran’s Chabahar port

A ship carrying two 100-ton mobile cranes from India will dock to the Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) on March 16, Director-General of Ports and Maritime Department in Sistan and Baluchestan Province Behrouz Aghaei said, Trend reports referring to the department’s website.

The director general emphasized that the value of these two cranes, which will be brought to the Chabahar port of Iran, cost $7.5 million.

Aghaei added that in addition, two more units of equipment will be brought to the Chabahar port in the first half of next Iranian year (from March 21 through September 22, 2021).

“In the first stage, two 140-ton cranes were delivered to Chabahar port in the last month (January 20 through February 18, 2021). The value of these cranes is $8.5 million. The annually loading and unloading capacity of port has increased to 20 million tons via these cranes,” he said.

The director general noted that according to the contract between Iran, India and Afghanistan on the development of the Chabahar Port, the Indian Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) will invest $85 million in the port. By the end of the first half of next Iranian year, 30 percent of India's investments will be realized.

According to Aghaei, as a result of the work done in the Chabahar port, more than 300,000 tons of goods were transited and exported in this year.

As reported, according to a memorandum between Iran, India and Afghanistan, the Iranian port of Chabahar is used for trade between India and Afghanistan.

Indian Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) is the operator of the Chabahar port will invest $85 million in the port.

About 221,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 21, 2020 through January 19, 2021). So, 3,310 tons of cargo were loaded and 218,000 tons were unloaded in the port over the reporting period.
