Georgia attaches great importance to starting negotiations with the European Union on a comprehensive free trade, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri told journalists before flying to Brussels, where the start of negotiations will be officially announced.

Gilauri will meet with the President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Commissioner on Trade Karel De Gucht within his visit. He is also scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat.

Georgia's Ambassador to the EU, Salome Samadashvili also stressed the significance of free trade negotiations with the EU. "Georgia is a country with small economy, but the start of the negotiations indicates that the EU attaches great political importance to it," Samadashvili said.
