President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov has signed the law "On ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of Uzbekistan on the activities of border officials," signed on Sept.5, 2017 in Bishkek, the Information Policy Department of the President's Office said in a message on Dec.13.

The law was passed by the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament of Kyrgyzstan) on Dec. 7, 2017.

The main objective of this agreement is to regulate issues related to the relations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in the sphere of protecting the state border and regulating the order of the activities of border representatives on the sections of the state border of Kyrgyzstan, conducting negotiations, regulating border incidents and maintaining the regime on the state border.

Ratification of this agreement is an important element in the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in the settlement of border incidents, joint border checks and the work of border officials.

The law enters into force ten days after the day of its official publication.
