EU to allocate 19.6mn euros to Kyrgyzstan for social projects until 2015

The EU will allocate 19.6 million euros for the implementation of social and ecology projects in Kyrgyzstan, KyrTAG reported today referring to the words of the Coordinator on Media Relations of the EU office in Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Jakypov.

The EU will allocate 19.6 million euros for the implementation of social and ecology projects in Kyrgyzstan, KyrTAG reported today referring to the words of the Coordinator on Media Relations of the EU office in Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Jakypov.

"A number of grant agreements were signed between the Kyrgyz government and the European Union in late 2012", he said. "The funds will be directed to finance projects in the areas of social protection, financial management, nuclear safety and local community development."

He said that around 13 million euros will be allocated to implement a social protection strategy written to last up to 2015.

Around 4.5 million euros will be spent on the improvement of the economic status of the Jalal-Abad region. According to this project, profitable initiatives of residents in 20 villages will be supported.

Around 600,000 euros will be allocated for the rehabilitation of a uranium production facility in the Min-Kush settlement (Naryn region). Another 1.5 million euros will be allocated to rehabilitate the Shekaftar uranium tailing pit in Jalal-Abad region.

"Funds for these projects will be distributed partially as grants", Zhakypov said.
