Political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan were held in Ashgabat, Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary (TDH) state news service said.

The Afghan delegation was led by deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Javid Ludin.

'The current state and prospects of bilateral relations in the economic sector, transport and communication, fuel and energy sector, humanitarian activities, sports were discussed during the talks held in an open and friendly atmosphere', said the media.

TDH notes that the Afghan delegation appreciated the active participation of Turkmenistan in stabilising the situation in Afghanistan and the establishment of a peaceful and prosperous life in the neighbouring state.

In particular, it was the significance of Turkmenistan's international initiatives to involve Afghanistan's major economic projects that promote the full integration of Afghanistan into the infrastructure of regional and global economy.

The construction of the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI), and the Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akin-Andkhoy railroad, as well as increase of Turkmen electricity supply to the neighbouring country were noted as some of the major projects.

The meeting also discussed topical aspects of interaction between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in the framework of bilateral cooperation and the authoritative international organisations, primarily in the United Nations.

Both sides spoke of the further development of political dialogue, including that of regular consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
