Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 7 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmen Deputy Railway Transport Minister Charymyrat Charyev has been dismissed for shortcomings in the work, an official Turkmen source said on Wednesday.

The corresponding decree was signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

This type of transport is of strategic importance in the economy. The master plan of developing the railway transport was approved for 2012-2016 to diversify its diversification.

Turkmenistan plans to construct its section of the North-South railway by late 2012.

An intergovernmental agreement on the North-South project was signed between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran in 2007.

The North-South project will open the way for European and Asian countries to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf. A similar opportunity will appear for the transit of goods from the countries of South and South-East Asia, the Indian Ocean to the Northern and Eastern Europe through Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.

According to preliminary forecasts, 3 to 5 million tons of cargo a year will be initially transported. The volume will increase to 10-12 million tons in the future.
