Uzbekistan, AIIB mull co-op issues

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun, who arrived in Tashkent on a working visit, discussed issues of developing mutually beneficial cooperation Aug. 8, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) reported.

Uzbekistan and AIIB intend to cooperate in modernization of water management facilities, development of energy infrastructure, construction of roads, electrification of railways, expansion of city metro network and other projects with a total cost of $2.7 billion.

Sides also discussed the creation of a mechanism to attract private direct investments for implementation of joint projects.

Jin Liqun stressed the bank’s readiness for long-term and full-scale cooperation with Uzbekistan.

AIIB expresses readiness to work on implementation of infrastructural projects in Uzbekistan, he said. The bank believes that Uzbekistan has a great potential, and in this respect AIIB is ready for the implementation of substantive projects in cooperation with Uzbek partners, Liqun added.

AIIB was founded in June 2015.
