The next record deliveries of melons from Uzbekistan to Ukraine is expected in 2018, as Ukrainian consumers appreciate the Uzbek melons for their tastiness, according to market participants.
In 2017, Uzbekistan exported four times more melons to Ukraine than in 2016 - the volume of deliveries amounted to 453 tons. Thus, Uzbekistan was the leader among melon suppliers to Ukraine and provided 60 percent of all supplies, and the trend of growth of melon export from Uzbekistan to Ukraine has been going on for several years.
The Mirzachul melon is especially valued in Ukraine, but this variety is much more expensive than other melons. Since Ukraine itself is a fairly big exporter of melons, the prices for the melons produced in Ukraine are much lower than for the imported goods. Therefore, the Uzbek melon is sold only in the expensive segment, and its price is many times higher than the price of Ukrainian melon.
The analysts of EastFruit company said Ukraine increased melon exports by four times in 2017, and the volume of exports of this product exceeded the imported melons by 36 times. In total, Ukraine has exported 27,500 tons of melons during the current season.
