Uzbekistan’s standardization agency bringing national standards in line with int’l requirements

The Uzstandard agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification is working to bring national standards in line with international requirements, which will contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for exporting enterprises in matters of product certification, the agency told Trend.

According to the agency, changes are currently being made to the laws of Uzbekistan ‘On Conformity Assessment’, ‘On Certification of Products and Services’ and ‘On Technical Regulation’ taking into account international practice in order to improve the system for assessing the conformity of products to the requirements of technical regulations.

In addition, a decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan approved a regulation on the department for ensuring compliance with legislative requirements in the field of technical regulation, standardization, certification and metrology under the Uzbek Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification.

In accordance with the above provision, the main tasks of the department are:

- prevention violations of legislation in the field of technical regulation, standardization, certification and metrology;

- provision of business entities with comprehensive assistance in matters of technical regulation, standardization, certification and metrology;

- organization and implementation of state control over compliance with the requirements of technical regulations, normative documents on standardization, over ensuring the uniformity and reliability of measurements, rules of mandatory certification;

- implementation of a set of measures to identify violations in the field of technical regulation, standardization, certification and metrology, and to take measures to eliminate the causes and conditions that contribute to them.

Also, Uzstandard is currently carrying out certain work to bring national standards in line with international requirements.

“Compliance with international requirements will help ensure the compliance of domestic products with modern requirements and increase their competitiveness in foreign markets, as well as the widespread introduction of modern product quality management systems, primarily for exporting enterprises, and certification of products for compliance with the requirements of technical regulations and regulatory documents on standardization,” the agency emphasized.

Uzstandard also noted that the compliance of national standards with international requirements will create favorable conditions for exporting enterprises in matters of product certification, intensify interaction with international organizations aimed at ensuring the recognition of national certificates and the results of conformity assessment in the main export markets.
