Expanded oil processing plant starts operations in Iran

Iran's top oil officials attended the opening of a newly expanded desalination plant in the southern Khuzestan province, Shana news reported.

Rostam Ghasemi, Iran's oil minister, Ahmad Qalebani, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), and other officials were in Ahwaz to officialy mark the Maroon Three desalination plant's operations.

The Maroon Three desalination plant's capacity to process salty oil from the Maroon and Shadegan fields' has grown from 55,000 to 110,000 barrels a day. The project cost about 180 billion rials (about $16 million).

The project's costs will be repaid in less than six days of operations.
