Iran gas consumption hits highest level ever

Iran Materials 20 July 2006 11:43 (UTC +04:00)

(IranMania) - Iranian Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh said that Irans daily consumption of natural gas has reached its highest level ever, MNA reported.

Expounding on the latest developments in the oil and gas industries, Vaziri-Hamaneh told the Majlis Energy Committee that gas consumption has reached 150 mln cubic meters per day, reports Trend.

The total daily consumption of gas is shocking and alarming, as it has doubled since the previous year (March 2005-March 2006), MP Javad Saadunzadeh of the parliamentary energy committee stated.

One of the reasons for the increase in gas consumption is the rise in the energy demand on power stations that use natural gas, he added.

The national program to encourage the use of cars fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) and the increase in consumption due to national projects to connect houses to gas lines are some of the other reasons for the phenomenon.

Statistics indicate that we are not enjoying a satisfactory situation in some parts of the oil industry, Saadunzadeh observed.
