Iranian bankers in talks to open branches in Europe

Iranian and European bankers have joined for talks in the 4th Iran-Europe Banking and Business Forum in Tehran to find ways how the Iranian sides would be able to open branches in Europe.

According to Ali Divandari, reach of Monetary and Banking Research Center, said the importance of the event is that Europeans are Iran’s second largest business partner after Asia, Mehr news agency reported April 29.

He also noted that the two sides will discuss fight on money laundering as a preliminary step for Iran to improve its banking ties to Europe.

Iran’s banking ties with the world were severely damaged under harsh international sanctions. The sanctions were removed in 2016 after longs talks which led to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and world powers. However, it seems major international banks have not yet found the courage to resume relations with Iran.
