By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Wheat was transported by ships for the first time between the Iranian ports, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Iran Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports via Mehr.

He said that 20,000 tons of wheat were transported from the Imam Khomeini Port by local ships to the Chabahar Port.

The PMO expects that 1 million tons of goods will be annually transported in the southern ports of Iran and 200,000 tons in the northern ports, he added.

Coordination with the PMO and the state trade and shipping companies has been carried out in order to transport products by sea, and this process is expected to continue, he said.

“Transportation of essential products by sea will lead to significant reduction in transport costs and will result in decrease in traffic jams, traffic accidents and environmental problems,” he said.
