Chamber of Commerce talks Iran-Tajikistan trade, banking issues

TEHRAN, Iran, May 3

Trend:

There are no problems between Iran and Tajikistan, except for one regarding food imports, as Tajikistan is being slightly strict towards imports of some of Iran's good, this should be solved through negotiations, said the head of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Chamber of Commerce Mohammad Hassan Roushanak told Trend.

"Our issue in trade relations with Tajikistan is about its ties with Turkmenistan that created limitation with cargo transit that passes from Turkmenistan to Tajikistan, and headed for Iran," Roushanak said.

"Although this limitation is not only for Iran but for all countries, the issue is between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan," he said.

"As far as banking relations between Iran and Tajikistan are concerned, there hasn't been any improvement. Iran doesn't have official transactions, there were unofficial and non-banking transactions, when export revenues were transferred to Dubai, Turkey or other countries, and then send to forex offices in Iran," Roushanak said.

"Iran never had a bank branch in Central Asia and Afghanistan since the fall of the Soviet Union and if it had financial transactions with these countries it was not done by banks," he said.

"The difference between now and the past is that Iran has not joined the FATF system nor approved its regulations, while it is also under sanctions, so if previously we were paying 2 percent fee for money transfers, now its 12 percent," he said.
