TEHRAN, Iran, June 11

Trend:

The Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran Alireza Razm Hosseini announced the 8-percent growth of Iranian economy, despite the COVID-19 situation, Trend reports via IRNA.

“Iran has endured a lot of economic pressures, but despite all these problems its foreign trade hit the record $75 billion, with the volume of 146 million tons last Iranian year (March 2020 to March 2021),” Hosseini said.

"With export record of $38 billion, the private sector and the country's non-oil exports received a needed boost,” he said.

The economic problems is the cost of Iran`s willing to be independent, he said.

"If we want to be dependent on other countries, in the long run we will become a colony," he pointed out.

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

The Islamic Republic of Iran only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19. The pandemic hit a wide range of businesses in Iran since its outbreak in mid-February.

The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan - which is an international transport hub - began at a fish market in late December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
