Following a recent visit to Tehran by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that the Islamic Republic gives priority to neighboring counties in its foreign policy.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to discuss regional and bilateral developments.

Earlier this week Zarif visited Iran’s southern neighbors of Oman and Qatar.

Oman served as a crucial link between Iran and the US over the past years. During the daylong visit to the sultanate the sides exchanged views on the wars in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

His visit to Qatar took place after almost four months of the Saudi-led blockade against Qatar.

Zarif conferred with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in Qatar for talks on strengthening cooperation.
