Azerbaijani IT sector (january-june 2017)

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, information and communication services worth 828.4 million manat were rendered for Azerbaijan's population and organizations in January-June 2017, which is by 3.7 percent more than in January-June 2016.

Some 81.5 percent of income received through the communication sector accounted for the non-state enterprises during the reporting period.

Around 72.1 percent of the total volume of information and communication services accounted for the services rendered to the population.

Mobile communication market

The revenues obtained from mobile services reached 398.1 million manat in Azerbaijan in January-June 2017 or by 1.14 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

At the same time, the revenues of the mobile sector are equal to 48.1 percent of revenues obtained from the entire telecommunications market.

As of June 2017, around 61,600 mobile devices were registered in the IMEI-code system, which is by 44 percent more than in June 2016.

Over 42,700 mobile devices were registered in the IMEI-code system in June 2016.

Over 359,000 mobile devices were registered in the IMEI-code system in January-June 2017, which is by 24.7 percent more than in January-June 2016.

The total number of IMEI-codes registered via e-government portal has exceeded 1.69 million after the system was launched.

Internet

According to Azerbaijani primary provider Delta Telecom, the volume of incoming Internet traffic in Delta Telecom’s network decreased by 11.7 percent and reached 150 gigabits from May 26 till June 23.

The dynamics of the network load varies depending on the time of day and the maximum load is observed in the evening (22:00 - 01:00) - 150 gigabits. In the morning this index reduces up to 20 gigabits.

According to Delta Telecom, volume of outgoing traffic depending on the time of day ranges from 0.5 gigabit to 20 gigabits.

Delta Telecom’s traffic is divided among 25 telecommunications operators (state and private Internet service providers, mobile network operators and others).

As of June 23, the biggest volume of Internet traffic delivered to the end users accounted for Aztelekom state Internet service provider with a 27.4 percent share. BakinterNet state Internet provider ranked second with a 20.1 percent share, while AG Telecom with an 8.5 percent share ranked third.

The remaining 43.8 percent are distributed among such companies as AZUninet, Azintex, BakinterNet, QlobalNet, Ultel, AlfaNet, AzNet, Caspel, MegaTelecom, Avirtel, Castel, Nakhchivan, Azercell, AzStarNet, Connect, Information and Computing Center (ICC) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, Azerin, DATAPlus, Smart Systems, Azeronline, Bakcell, Eurocel and TransEuroCom.

PC market

As of January-June 2017, the sale of notebooks and netbooks increased by 11.1 percent in Azerbaijan, the Global Stats statistical center said.

As of July 1, 2017, the market share of notebooks reached 59.5 percent in Azerbaijan, which is by 23.1 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

An almost 13.2 percent decrease in desktop computer sales was observed in the country as of January-June 2017.

The market share of desktop computers in Azerbaijan reached 37 percent as of late June 2017, which is by 21.9 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

The market share of tablet computers in Azerbaijan ranked third and reached 3.55 percent.

The market share of tablet computers decreased by 8.3 percent in Azerbaijan as of January-June 2017 and by 16.7 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

Social networks

According to Global Stats center, Facebook users’ activity decreased by 31.6 percent in January-June 2017.

As of July 1, 2017, Facebook's share in the Azerbaijani social media market amounted to 60.2 percent, which is by 36 percent less than in the same period of 2016. By popularity Facebook ranks first in the Azerbaijani social media market.

YouTube with a market share of 15 percent ranks second. YouTube users’ activity increased by almost 29 times in January-June 2017.

By popularity Twitter social network ranks third. Twitter users’ activity increased by 2.5 times in January-June 2017. As of July 1, 2017, Twitter’s market share was 9.5 percent, which is by 2.8 times more than as of July 1, 2016.

Pinterest social network with a market share of 6.47 percent ranks fourth, followed by V Kontakte social network – 2.02 percent, Tumblr – 1.58 percent, Instagram – 1.12 percent and others.
