Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad was set to take part in joint ministerial talks with German counterparts in Berlin Tuesday, at the first meeting of the German-Palestinian Steering Committee, DPA reported.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, as well as representatives from the interior, economy, development and education ministries are to receive Fayyad's delegation.

"With the establishment of this bilateral forum, the federal government will support the efforts of the Palestinian authorities in the building-up of effective state structures," a statement released by the Berlin foreign ministry said.

The talks come days after indirect talks between Palestinians and Israels began last week, and ahead of a meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and US Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell on Wednesday.
