The website of the ruling handball body IHF providing all information on the current world championships was among those cut off on Friday as the internet was blocked in Egypt ahead of planned anti-government protests, DPA reported.

The IHF resides in Switzerland but its website runs via a server in Egypt. It's president Hassan Mustafa is an Egyptian citizen.

All data and information on the championships in Sweden, which reached the semi-final stage on Friday and runs until Sunday, is provided by the IHF website. It provides a live stream, live ticker, team and match statistics as well as news and background on the tournament.

The IHF is reportedly attempting to move its championship internet presence to the home page of tournament organizers.
