Two Egyptian policemen were killed and two others injured Sunday when unknown gunmen attacked them in the Sinai Peninsula, reported security and medical sources, dpa reported.
The attack targeted a security checkpoint near the airport of the city of Al-Arish and triggered a clash between the assailants and the policemen, added the sources.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security and military forces were hunting for the attackers, who are believed to have escaped into plantations in southern Al-Arish, said the sources.
Egypt has been gripped by turmoil and soaring crime rates ever since the ouster of Hosny Mubarak in a popular revolt in February 2011.
