A bridge partially collapsed in the Saudi capital Wednesday amid torrential rains that have flooded Riyadh for the past four days, online newspaper Sabq reported.

Three people were wounded and two vehicles fell off the bridge as flash floods swept away some of its supporting structures in eastern Riyadh, the report said.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and traffic was diverted over fears that the entire structure would give way, said civil defence spokesman Mohammed al-Hamadi, dpa reported.

Heavy downpours have lashed the desert kingdom since Saturday, prompting the authorities to keep schools closed in several areas Wednesday.

Four people were killed and 10 went missing in flooded areas, said civil defence officials Tuesday.

Some 123 people were killed in 2009, when torrential rains hit the Saudi port city of Jeddah.
