Syria plans to take part in the next Winter Olympic Games for the first time in history and searches abroad for athletes that will perform under the Syrian flag, President of the Syrian Olympic Committee Muwafaq Juma said, Trend reports referring to TASS.
"We have plans to involve Syrians residing abroad in performing at the Winter Olympics under the Syrian flag. This is search has been unsuccesful so far, but we continue working on this," Juma said adding that Syria is also working on popularizing winter sports.
"Our climate is not cold enough to develop winter sports but the Syrian Olympic Committee plans to expand work on making them more popular. One of the directions is to restore sports facilities for playing hockey that operated before the war," he noted.
