Another 49 cases of influenza A/ H1N1 cases were detected in Israel over the weekend, bringing the total number to 454, reported local news service Ynet on Sunday.

All the new patients are in mild conditions and are receiving treatment in their homes, added the report, without specifying where and how they contracted the virus, Xinhua reported.

Israel has recently witnessed a rapid increase of A/H1N1 cases. Previous reports indicated that while most cases were imported from overseas, those of domestic infection in the nation was also on the rise.

In light of its rapid spread worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised earlier this month the A/H1N1 alert to its highest level, formally declaring that it had developed into a global pandemic.
