( dpa ) - Dozens of Jordanian women staged a sit-in before the office of the United Nations in Amman on Saturday to protest Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The protesters, representing several feminist organizations, deposited a memorandum urging UN Secretary General Bank-Ki moon to intervene to ensure a lifting of the Israeli siege and an end to the "policy of starvation" towards the Palestinian people.

Hundreds Islamist activists took part in a separate sit-in at the headquarters of the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's largest political party, in support of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes they deserted when Israel was founded in 1948.
