A spokesman for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday ruled out a Kenya-style unity government with the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, South African radio reported.
Speaking at an African Union leaders' summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, George Charamba said Kenya was not Zimbabwe and that there was no need for a unity government, South African radio quoted him as telling journalists, reported dpa.
His remarks came amid mounting tension around Mugabe at the summit that opened a day after he was sworn in as president for a further five years Sunday after elections slammed as undemocratic by African observers.
Security had been beefed up at the summit after journalists on Monday night became engaged in a scuffle with Mugabe's security men as he was leaving the summit venue, the radio report added.
