Rejecting calls to sack the entire 23-man World Cup squad, new France national manager Laurent Blanc said Tuesday that he wanted "to make the best team with the best players", DPA reported.

Following France's dismal showing in South Africa - the side crashed out in the group stage - and a one-day player mutiny, there have been many calls for a new generation of untested players to replace the current World Cup squad.

But Blanc, who was defender on the France side that won the 1998 World Cup, said he was no "Mr. Bogeyman" and that it was not his place to discipline the leaders of the rebellion against his predecessor, Raymond Domenech.

However, in his first press conference since taking the post, Blanc also said he would take the events of South Africa into consideration in his decisions.

"I cannot act as if nothing happened," the 44-year-old Blanc said. "No one would forgive me for that."

He was particularly shocked by the player mutiny two days before an important match against South Africa, which France lost 2-1.

"My guiding words will be rigour and discipline but also pleasure," Blanc said.

He did not mention players' names or what his plans were for the first France match under his guidance, an August 11 friendly in Norway.
