Flash flood kills one person in Slovakia

Heavy rain caused flash floods in parts of Slovakia on Sunday, killing one person and causing great property damage, local media reported.
The towns of Handlova and Prievidza in western Slovakia suffered sudden heavy downpours which lasted for between three and four hours, and overflowing rivers flooded the streets in these towns, according to Slovakian TV stations and other media, Xinhua reported.
Handlova, with a population of over 500,000, is becoming an isolated town as all the roads leading to the outside were submerged by flood water.
In the first seven months of 2010, the rainfall in Slovakia amounted to an average yearly total, and the rainfalls in some regions are above 775 millimeters, surpassing that of the whole year.
