The centre-left Democratic Party held onto control of the upper chamber of Congress in Tuesday elections, beating out efforts by opposition Republicans to gain control, CNN projections showed.
The Democrats will have at least 50 seats in the 100-member chamber. Republicans took control of the lower House of Representatives, dpa reported.
