Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has urged the EU to decide on the status of Turkey in the union, Trend reports referring to Turkish media on April 30.

The foreign minister noted that full EU membership is one of the important priorities for Ankara.

“But if the EU doesn’t intend to accept Turkey into the EU, it should openly say it,” Cavusoglu added.

On April 27, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the EU must decide on Turkey’s membership in the EU.

He noted that if the EU doesn’t need Turkey, it should openly declare this.

Erdogan added that Turkey has fulfilled all the conditions for full membership in the EU.

The Association Agreement between the EU and Turkey was signed in 1963. Ankara filed an application for EU membership in 1987, but accession negotiations began only in 2005.
