The results of the presidential elections held in Armenia on Monday can not be considered as a victory taking into account the total lack of competitors, French MP Nathalie Goulet told Trend on Wednesday.

"As a matter of fact the real master of the country will remain Russia, and Armenia did not win any part of sovereignty in these elections, on the contrary, it is a major lost for the population and the people of Armenia," Goulet wrote Trend in an e-mail.

Goulet believes that the results of the elections will not bring any change to the current situation, given the promises of the campaign on the opening of the Khojaly airport and etc.

On Monday, Feb.18 the presidential elections were held in Armenia. According to the results of the elections, Serzh Sargsyan reelected as the country's president scoring 58.64 percent of the votes, First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second scoring 36.75 percent of votes, while Former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third scoring 2.15 percent.

"Armenia is and will remain a muppet in the hand of Moscow, and I hope that a real change will come from the Armenian society itself. I hope the civil society will be able to come over a real democracy, and the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe can help them in this," Goulet said.

However, according to Goulet, now the situation in the region is very scary and the Minsk Group is working to slow down Armenian Provocations, one of which is the intention of Armenian government to settle Syrian refugees with Armenian roots coming from Syria.

The Armenian government settles them in occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh and other territories of Lachin and Kalbajar," Goulet said.

Earlier, Armenian media reported on the intended commissioning of the airport at Khojaly in the near future.

The commissioning of the airport is an open violation of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (adopted on December 7, 1944 in Chicago), the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported earlier.

Azerbaijan will strengthen the legal level use of the application of the Chicago convention.

Azerbaijan banned the use of the airspace over Nagorno-Karabakh occupied by Armenia, as no one can guarantee a safe air corridor in the area, the Azerbaijani Civil Aviation Administration said earlier.

According to Azerbaijani Civil Aviation Administration, Armenia's steps towards the operation of the airport are attempts to violate international aviation law. This air space belongs to Azerbaijan, so its use by Armenia is illegal.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ICAC) also support the position of Azerbaijan on this issue.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
