A policeman Monday shot dead six of his colleagues at an outpost in western Afghanistan, an official said.
The incident occurred in Gulran district in Herat province and injured one other person, a police officer who asked not to be named told dpa.
"The shooter has fled taking his colleagues' weapons, and is highly likely to have joined the Taliban militants," he added.
The Taliban did not issue a statement on the incident.
In the southern province of Helmand, six civilians died and 13 were wounded after a roadside bomb struck their van on Sunday, said Omar Zwak, a provincial spokesman.
