PACE CHAIRMAN: PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS MUST CONFIRM FULFILLMENT OF COMMITMENTS BY AZERBAIJAN

The forthcoming parliamentary elections must be a proof for fulfillment of commitments set by the Council of Europe to Azerbaijan, chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Rene van der Linden stated on 22 August at the meeting with the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade, Trend reports.

He appreciated highly the measures taken in the country for integration into the European structures. “Like any other country, Azerbaijan undertook commitments set by the Council of Europe on the democratization of the society. And one of these commitments is to hold fair and transparent parliamentary election”, PACE chairman said.

Touching upon the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, Rene van der Linden spoke of the CE readiness to be involved in the peacekeeping process. He assured, CE would take all necessary efforts for the quickest solution of the problem.

Rasizade stated, the Azerbaijan’s President’s Decree on improving the election practice gives hopes the parliamentary elections will be held at the top level.
