The Baku 2015 European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) has teamed up with website management experts Sitecore to relaunch the official Baku 2015 site, Baku 2015 European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) told Trend Sept. 12.

Sitecore, specializing in bespoke content management and digital marketing technology, will provide support to the Baku 2015 web team as the countdown to the inaugural European Games continues.

The company has signed a supply and sponsorship agreement and will become an integral part of providing information around the European Games, which take place in Azerbaijan's capital next year.

"It is important for the inaugural European Games to have a strong online presence and an innovative website with original, high-quality content," Simon Clegg, Chief Operating Officer of Baku 2015, said. "Sitecore are internationally renowned for their ability to create and manage websites of the highest standard and to have their support is a huge boost to the web team here at the European Games."

With a detailed focus on each of the 20 sports and 18 competition venues of the first European Games, the new Baku 2015 website has already been visited by fans from more than 130 countries around the world since its launch on 21 August.

"Sitecore is honoured to be an Official Supporter of Baku 2015," Soren Bak Jepsen, President of Sitecore International, said. "We look forward to using our experience and abilities to bring the excitement of the European Games online."

"The website features bold design and all content will be optimized for multiple device types and screens, so fans can connect with the Games at any time," he said. "The site will also integrate social media commentary so sports fans around the world can engage with all of the action, and each other, in real-time."

The deal means Sitecore has become the fourth Official Supporter of Baku 2015 after McDonald's, Tickethour and Milla.

"Sitecore's professionalism and experience of dealing with major international sporting events means they are the perfect partner for Baku 2015," Charlie Wijeratna, Commercial Director of Baku 2015, added. "Their technology has powered the online experiences for some of the world's most popular sporting teams and events, and will be essential to maintaining the Baku 2015 online presence. Their expertise and reputation is second-to-none and we are looking forward to working closely with them in the months ahead."

Founded in 2001, Sitecore has headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, and California, USA, and currently operates in more than 55 countries around the world.

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place from 12 - 28 June 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Nine of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio Summer Olympic Games in 2016. Those sports include Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon and Volleyball.

Baku was awarded the Games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organise and run the Games in co-operation with the EOC.
