Uzbekistan, OIC strengthen cooperation

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad bin Amin Madani discussed the prospects of intensifying the cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OIC, the Uzbek foreign ministry said.

During the meeting the sides also discussed the practical issues of Uzbekistan's presidency in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization in 2016 and the preparation for the ministerial council meeting in Tashkent.

The meeting took place in New York. An Uzbek delegation headed by Kamilov, arrived in New York to attend the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.

It was previously reported that the decision of holding the OIC foreign ministerial council meeting in Uzbekistan was approved at the 41st session of the council held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) in June 2014.

The OIC current members are 57 countries. OIC is the largest and most influential Muslim official governmental international organization.

The Council of Foreign Ministers, gathering once a year, is one of the OIC governing bodies.
