By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

The French company Alstom is interested in the North-South transport corridor project, Bernard Peille, managing director of the French company Alstom’s South CIS Cluster, told Trend’s correspondent in Berlin.

Peille noted that the company is studying possibilities of participation in the project.

“Our strategy is to offer the best solutions for our customers, and Azerbaijan is no exception,” Peille said. “We are open to any discussions and opportunities in Azerbaijan in order to strengthen our partnership.”

“We will look for new opportunities of cooperation, as various interesting projects are currently being carried out - expansion of subway in Baku, creation of the North-South transportation corridor,” he added. “We also analyze the possibilities of work in this and other areas.”

The North-South transportation corridor is meant to connect Northern Europe to South-East Asia. It will serve as a link connecting the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. At the initial stage, the North-South corridor will transport 5 million tons of cargo per year with further expansion of transportation to over 10 million tons.

Peille noted that Alstom wants to see what opportunities this corridor will give it and will further discuss with the Azerbaijani government the way the company can be involved in the project.

“First of all, we ourselves need to understand what kind of project it is and what it will be like, because we don’t have a clear idea,” Peille said. “We are ready to provide a variety of optimal solutions from infrastructure and alarm system to the rolling stock if there is mutual interest.”

He added that currently there is no progress regarding the tram line construction project in Azerbaijan’s Ganja city.

“However, we are present in the Azerbaijani market, and we will continue to work here,” said Peille.
