Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector grows by over 5%

Azerbaijan's non-oil sector has grown by 5.1 percent, while its oil sector has dropped by 1.3 percent in January-March 2016, as compared to the same period in 2015, said a report issued by the country's State Statistical Committee.

The total volume of industrial production (the volume of manufactured products and rendered industrial services) in Azerbaijan stood at 7 billion manats in the first quarter of 2016, or 0.6 percent less than in January-March 2015.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in mining industry stood at 4.4 billion manats, which accounts for 63.3 percent of the total volume of industrial production, or 1.2 percent less than in January-March 2015.

Azerbaijan produced 10.52 million tons of oil and 7.56 billion cubic meters of gas in January-March 2016.

The volume of oil production in the country has dropped by 1.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015, while the gas output has increased by 2 percent.

This is while 2 billion manats worth products were manufactured in the processing industry in the first quarter of 2016 (28.7 percent of the total volume of industrial production), or 5.7 percent more than in the same period in 2015.

The highest growth in this sector was recorded in weaving industry - 3.2 times, repair and installation of machinery and equipment - 2.4 times and manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products - 2.4 times.

During the reporting period, the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam decreased by 5.2 percent as compared to the same period in 2015, while the water supply, treatment and recycling of waste dropped by 4.5 percent.
