Transportation of Azerbaijani oil via BTC increases

The volume of oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline stood at 17.7 million tons in January-July 2016 versus 16.86 million tons in the same period of 2015, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR said in a message Aug. 5.

BTC mainly transports Azeri Light oil produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

Aside from the Azerbaijani oil, the pipeline transports oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

BTC transported 2.76 million tons of Kazakh and Turkmen oil in January-July 2016.

A total of 369.9 million tons of oil has been transported via the BTC since the start of its operation.

Meanwhile, 17.5 million tons of oil was sent to global markets from Turkey’s Ceyhan port in January-July 2016, compared to 17 million tons in the same period of 2015.

In total, 308.7 million tons of Azerbaijani oil was sent from the Ceyhan port to world markets via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline since the start of its operation.
