Azerbaijan joins PREGA project

Azerbaijan has joined the regional project on technical assistance to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) �Rehabilitation of energy, energy efficiency and research of cut in hotbed gas’ (PREGA).

Baku Office of the ADB told Trend a national report on recoverable energy sources will be developed in the country through interaction with the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan.

The consultants hired by the Bank have set up work over the report, which will contain estimation of the current state and recommendations. The report will be complete by late 2005.

Azerbaijan joined PREGA with respect to improve energy supply and research of the potential of development recoverable energy sources.

The first stage of the report includes provision of potential for development of the project, definition of favorable opportunities
for implementation of the project, technical, financial, economic and ecologic estimation of the pilot projects in the rural areas, review of obstacles in the sector and the public policy, spread of experience and presentation of the pilot project. The second stage of PREGA will pay special attention to detail and grounded study of investments in the wind, mini-hydrologic and sun energy.

PREGA, which is financed by Dutch government and managed by the ADB, is designed for $4.5m to benefit for 12 member-banks (Central Asian, China and Mongolia).
