SOCAR intends to increase volume of drilling operations in 2014

The volume of drilling operations of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will amount to 150,000 meters in 2014, according to the forecasts, a source at SOCAR told Trend on April 14.

SOCAR carried out some 142,656 meters of drilling operations in 2013 compared to 136,441 meters in 2012. Some 135,665 meters of all the drilling works carried out in 2013, fell to development drilling and 6,991 meters fell to exploration drilling.

"Currently, the wells are being drilled in onshore and offshore fields of SOCAR. The volume of drilling operations will amount to nearly 150,000 meters in 2014, according to the preliminary data," the source said.

SOCAR carried out some 33,777 meters of drilling operations (excluding joint ventures and operating companies) in January-March 2014, compared to 40,845 meters in the first quarter of 2013.

SOCAR includes the production association Azerneft (companies producing oil and gas on land and sea), Azerkimya (chemical industry enterprises), and Azerigaz (gas distribution).

Jointly with foreign partners, SOCAR participates in major projects such as the development of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields and the Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea.
