The draft of Turkmenistan's updated constitution (the article 52) is proposed to include a provision on extending the term of office of the country's president from five to seven years, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary (TDH) state news agency reported May 29.

This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Constitutional Commission on Improvement of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, which was addressed by Akja Nurberdiyeva, the chairperson of the country's parliament, the Majlis.

Nurberdiyeva said the new provision can be included to the constitution "on the basis of the received proposals, given the realities of the new historical era and best world experience, and for a successful implementation of large-scale long-term programs."
