Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the expansion of international relations in the tourism sector, including further activation of partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), reads the address of the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to participants of the international exhibition and conference “Tourism and travel”, opened Sept. 27 in Avaza National Tourist Zone.

“I am confident that the traditional forum, organized at the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, will play an important role in demonstrating the potential of Turkmenistan’s tourism industry,” said the president.

Tourism industry has a special place in Turkmenistan’s strategic plans. An example of that is the Avaza resort, being built on the Caspian Sea, the country’s first free economic zone, where tax and customs privileges are granted to investors, firms and companies.

The Great Silk Road passed through Turkmenistan, the country has a rich folk culture, diverse natural landscapes, and unique archaeological monuments, including those included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
