Iran’s imports increase by 19.5%

Iran imported $55.52 billion worth of goods in 2014, which indicates a rise by 19.47 percent, compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran imported some 42.102 million metric tons of goods during that period which is 32.27 percent more compared to 2013, according to the Iranian Customs Administration detailed monthly report released Feb.4.

Wheat worth $1.919 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 3.46 percent share from the country's total imports' value. The Islamic Republic imported 5.737 million metric tons of wheat in 2014, indicating an increase by 42.37 percent in terms of volume year on year.

Iran's wheat imports also witnessed a rise by 20.55 percent during the mentioned period compared to 2013 in terms of value.

After wheat, rice worth $ 1.631 billion and soybean meal worth $ 1.571 billion were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic in 2014.

Tehran's rice imports have declined by 26.66 percent during the period, meanwhile the imports of soybean meal registered a fall by 5.82 percent in terms of value compared with 2013.

The three mentioned goods shared 9.2 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

The average price for each one metric ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1319, which is 9.68 percent less than the previous year.

The Islamic Republic's overall non-oil trade turnover stood at $90.297 billion in 2014.

The figure indicates a 16.42 percent rise in comparison with the $77.557 billion trade turn over during 2013.
