By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Iran's annual production is expected to hit 50 million metric tons for the current Iranian fiscal year (ending March 20), said the director of the Production Control Unit of the Iranian National Petrochemical Industries Ali Mohammad Bosaqzadeh.

He said that the amount comes with an increase of 6 million metric tons compared to the last year.

One million metric tons of that has to do with the inauguration of new projects and five million metric tons relates to optimizing the existing complexes, he said, SHANA news agency reported April 21.

Bosaqzadeh pointed out that petrochemical production in Iran last year increased by 10 percent compared to the preceding year, rising from 40.5 million metric tons to 44.5 million.

He further noted that in the last Iranian year (which ended March 20), the petrochemical firms used 78 percent of their capacity.

The number had been 71 percent for the preceding year, according to the official.

There are currently 60 unfinished petrochemical projects in Iran with 10 to 90 percent progress. By accomplishing them, the country's annual petrochemical output is likely to rise to 120 million metric tons per year.

There are also 36 new projects which need $41 billion investment. If accomplished, these would raise the output to 180 million metric tons.
