Iran’s sedan car output increases by 26%

Some 262,161 cars have been produced in Iran in the first quarter of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-June 21).

The figure indicates 16.2 percent increase compared to the same months of preceding year, Iran's industry, mines and trade ministry's official SHATA news portal reported July 4.

Sedan cars output stood at 243,522 in the mentioned period, 26.6 percent more year on year.

Iran also produced 15,204 pickup trucks, 109 minibuses, 198 buses and 3,128 trucks in the three-month period.

Peugeot Pars (37,830), Pride (34,590), Peugeot 405(30,367) and Peugeot 206(29,117) as well as Tiba (23,900) and Samand (22,492) topped the list of sedans produced in the period.

Iran produced 100,355 cars in the third month of Khordad(May 21-June 21), 14.2 percent more year on year.

Sedan cars output stood at 92,508 in the one-month period, indicating a rise by 23.3 percent compared to the same period of preceding year.

Some 6,715 pickup trucks, 35 minibuses, 41 buses and 1,056 trucks produced in the country in the one-month period.

Iran produced more than 1.13 million cars in the past fiscal year (ended on March 21).

Sedan cars output stood at 958,335 in the mentioned period, a 53 percent rise year on year. Iran also produced 150,929 pickup trucks, 20,239 trucks, 482 buses, and 179 minibuses in the 12-month period.

Tehran produced 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia's eighth largest car manufacturer. Iran also stood at the world's 18th place in the mentioned year.

The Islamic Republic's automobile output faced a 40 percent decrease in 2012 due to the sanctions. The country was Asia's fifth largest car manufacturer in 2011, with a total output of 1,648,505.

Western countries suspended certain sanctions against Iran as the Geneva nuclear deal came into force in January 2014. Iran was permitted to import materials for its auto-manufacturing sector as a result of the nuclear deal implementation, which has led to a sharp increase in the country's auto output.
