More than 38 billion liters of liquid fuel were consumed in Iran in the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Sept. 22), Mansour Riahi, deputy-managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said.

The figure includes consumption of gasoline, jet fuel (ATK), kerosene, diesel as well as liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

Some 13.5 billion liters of gasoline were consumed in the country during the period, 3.2 percent more, year on year, Riahi said, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported.

Totally 15.5 billion liters of diesel (16.7 percent more year on year), 4.65 billion liters of fuel oil (31.4 percent less), and 781.2 million liters of kerosene (16 percent decrease) were consumed in the 6-month period this year, the Iranian official added.

About 744 million liters of jet fuel also consumed in the country, Riahi said.

He further said that Iran's LPG consumption stood at 1.86 billion liters during the mentioned time, 1.1 percent less compared to preceding year.

Iran has reduced the supply of liquid fuel to power plants as it plans to replace liquid fuel with natural gas.

Over 50 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to the country's power plants last fiscal year (ended on March 20), 15 billion cubic meters more compared to its preceding year.
